What Scripture Says About Where You Started

The world tells you that you start with nothing and have to earn everything. Work harder. Get further. Prove yourself. The opening position is poverty, and the rest of your life is the long climb out of it.
Scripture tells a different story. The opening position was never poverty. The opening position was inheritance. You were rich before you took your first breath — you just may not have checked the account.
Genesis 1:27 — "So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them." That is not a small line. That is the opening verse on your worth. Before any résumé, before any title, before any earning — your starting valuation was set by the One who set the value of light, oceans, and stars.

You were not handed a blank slate and told to earn a face. You were handed a likeness. The image of God is the original equity in you, and nothing the world does to you can withdraw it.
Jeremiah 1:5 — "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart." Read that slowly. He knew you before you had a body. He set you apart before you had a name. Your existence is not an accident the universe coughed up. It is a deliberate placement.

There is a difference between being made and being known. Things get made. People get known. You were both — made on purpose, known by name, set apart for something specific. That is not a poverty starting position.
Genesis 1:28 — the first job assignment ever recorded was authority, not survival. "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule…" The first word over humans was rule. Not scrape. Not beg. Rule.
The fall didn't cancel the design. It bent it. The design is still authority and stewardship — the right to act, the right to cultivate, the right to bring order to a corner of the world and call it good. That right was given, not earned.
Romans 8:17 — "Now if we are children, then we are heirs — heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ." Co-heir is not a small word. Co-heir means equal share of the inheritance. Not a servant in the house, hoping for scraps from the table. A child at the table, named in the will.

That is the verse the enemy works hardest to keep you from believing. Because the moment you live like a co-heir, the moment you stop apologizing for taking up space at your own Father's table, the whole posture of your life changes.
The richness is not money first. Money is downstream. The inheritance is identity, access, authority, and belonging — and all four were given before you did a single thing to deserve them.
Identity — you bear the image. Access — the veil is torn (Hebrews 10:19-20), the throne is approachable. Authority — dominion was the original assignment, restored in Christ. Belonging — you were known before the world began, adopted as sons and daughters (Ephesians 1:5).
He predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will.

Money is a side effect of stewarding those four well. It is never the inheritance itself. People who chase the side effect without the source spend their whole life rich and broke at the same time.
Most of us live like spiritual paupers because nobody ever told us to check the balance. We were handed a sealed envelope at birth and walked past it for thirty years on our way to earn what was already inside.
You do not have to become someone to be loved by God. You already are someone — and you are already loved.
Today, open the envelope. Read Genesis 1:27 and let it land. Read Jeremiah 1:5 and let it land. Read Romans 8:17 and refuse to flinch from the word co-heir. Then walk into your day from that account, not from the deficit the world keeps trying to talk you into.
You were born rich. The work of a faithful life is not earning the inheritance. It is learning to live like the heir you already are.
