For sitting still, looking back honestly, and choosing again

Some prayers ask for something. This one is different. This one is just for sitting still, looking back honestly, and choosing — again — to stay faithful in what's ahead. Read it slow. Let it be yours.
Before I ask you for anything today, let me just stop here for a moment. Let me look back.
This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Psalm 118:24
I haven't always treated my days like they were made on purpose. I've rushed through them, complained through them, wished them away toward some easier season. But today, I want to actually look at what you've carried me through — the years I couldn't see the road ahead and somehow I'm still standing on it now.
I remember the seasons I thought would break me and didn't. I remember provision that showed up later than I wanted but never later than I actually needed. I remember doors that closed and, only in looking back, I can see they closed because something better was waiting that I could not have recognized at the time.
Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
Lamentations 3:22-23
Your faithfulness, not mine. I haven't always been consistent. I haven't always shown up the way I meant to. But you have. Every single morning, whether I noticed or not, you have.
Thank you for the ordinary days I did not think to be grateful for while I was living them. Thank you for people who stayed. Thank you for the ones who left, if I am honest, because some of those departures were mercy in disguise. Thank you for prayers you answered exactly as I asked, and thank you, even more, for the ones you answered differently than I asked — because I can see now that your way was better than my request.
Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
1 Thessalonians 5:18
Not thanks for all circumstances. Thanks in them. That is the harder practice, and it is the one I want to actually build — not gratitude that waits for good news, but gratitude that exists in the middle of whatever today actually holds.
I am appreciative — not because everything is easy, but because I am still here, still yours, still being carried.
I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.
Psalm 9:1
With all my heart, not the leftover part. Not the part that is easiest to give after everything else has had its share. All of it.
Now, Father, help me stay faithful in what's ahead. Not just grateful for what's behind me, but faithful going forward — in the parts of this life that are still unfinished, still uncertain, still asking something of me I'm not sure I have the strength for on my own.
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Galatians 6:9
I don't want to give up in the season before the harvest. I don't want to walk away in year two of something you called me to for the long run. Give me endurance that doesn't depend on how I feel on any given day.
Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things.
Matthew 25:21
That's what I actually want to hear one day. Not "well done, most successful," not "well done, most impressive." Faithful. Let that be the word that describes me — in the small, unseen obedience just as much as in the visible wins. Let me be someone who shows up whether or not anyone's watching, because you always are.
Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
Psalm 139:23-24
Show me anywhere I have drifted without noticing. Show me any gratitude I have let go stale, any faithfulness I have let slide into routine instead of relationship. I do not want to just perform reflection today — I want to actually be changed by it.
Let me leave this moment different than I entered it. Not with a longer list of things to fix, but with a heart that is genuinely thankful, genuinely aware of how far you have carried me, and genuinely ready to keep walking with you into whatever is still ahead.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
Proverbs 3:5-6
I trust you with the parts of the road I can already see, and I trust you with the parts I can't see yet too.
Thank you for today. Thank you for all the days before it that made me who I am right now. And thank you, in advance, for the faithfulness I know is coming, even in the days I haven't lived yet.
